Biography:
Arnold Stieve is a violist from Hamburg based in Berlin. He first began his musical education as a violinist at the age of six. In 2012 he became concertmaster of the Hamburg State Youth Orchestra, in 2015 he decided to study violin in Bremen with Prof. Thomas Klug. In 2017, he finally began to explore playing the viola and quickly fell in love with the warm, slightly tart sound of the instrument.
In 2018 Arnold Stieve began his Bachelor’s degree at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin in the class of Prof. Tabea Zimmermann and her assistant German Tcakulov (who is now a viola professor at the HfM Karlsruhe). Since his Master’s degree started in 2023 he is now a student of Diyang Mei and Prof. Walter Küssner.
In his young career, Arnold Stieve has already participated in several radio and CD recordings, appeared several times as principal violist in various ensembles and has been a guest at a number of festivals in Germany and abroad. Especially the chamber music work with musicians such as Tianwa Yang, Marina Grauman, Oliver Triendl, Viola Wilmsen, Sueye Park and Andrei Ioniță always an important source of inspiration for Arnold Stieve. Furthermore, masterclasses with renowned artists such as Prof. Ingolf Turban, Prof. Tatjana Masurenko, Prof. Lawrence Power and Maxim Rysanov were particularly influential.
Important highlights of his career were a chamber music recording for the WDR as well as a scholarship for the SLSQ Chamber Music Seminar at Stanford University in California and his solo debut in the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie together with Gerald Karni and the Hamburg Camerata. Moreover Arnold Stieve was a member of the Ferenc Fricsay Academy of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin (2020-2022) and is now member of the orchestra academy of the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
Since 2019 he has been a scholarship holder of the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Berlin e.V. association.
